Setting up templates with artboards for social media aspect ratios for posts, videos, and cover images can be a game-changer. Reuse the master template over and over to speed up your workflow.

Before there were pro features like “resize” in Canva and Adobe Express, designers like me created artboard templates. Canva took the artboard concept (like Photoshop and Illustrator) and presentations (PowerPoint, Notes, and Google Slides) to new levels.

Photoshop Is Not Dead
They call Canva the Photoshop/Adobe killa, but I still make most of the cover art for my music in Photoshop mostly because of its layer effects. My template includes a square image (1:1) for my distribution service and 16:9 and 4:5 artboards I can use as a promo reel or story. When I click File › Export › Export As… I have a square for distribution and 16:9 and 4:5 for social media.

  • To create smaller or larger versions of each image at the time of export, use suffixes and the scaling feature. Use a logical naming convention for your artboards.
  • You can set up the same kind of template in Canva and make copies of it for each project. Pro subscription may be necessary.
