Email is Not Dead—Start or Build Your List
All Levels, Foundational, Working Knowledge

Email is still a powerful (and underused) tool for connecting with people interested in what you do and what you have to offer. Social media is noisy and unpredictable. Email is direct, personal, and still one of the best ways to build relationships and drive action. It’s your owned channel—use it wisely. Your email list is one of your best assets—but only if people actually open and read your messages. Good email marketing builds relationships, not just clicks.
Be Consistent, Not Constant
- Weekly or monthly is fine—just pick a rhythm you can stick to
- Only send when you have something relevant to say; a product or event promo is always a good time
- Make It Easy to Scan and Click: Short paragraphs, bold headers, and clear buttons
- Spell-check and test ALL your links – especially those linking to sale items or bookings
- Follow up on any responses and make sure you have a clear opt-out link
Done right, email can reach your customers and drive traffic, engagement, and sales goals. Most email marketing services offer segmentation of your lists (even free tiers) so use them so you know exactly who your customer is. As your list grows, you’ll have all the data you need to move to a full-blown CRM, if warranted.
